Leave the kitchen sink

PREPARING TO DEPLOY: Are you a heavy packer? Do you go on weekend outings with three suitcases? Well not on this trip. Space is very limited on USS Nimitz. I have two lockers besides this one under my rack. Half of one locker is already filled with microwave popcorn.

Print shop

3 MCs work in the print shop. MC3 Lewis loves to make posters. They get a steady stream of orders from various departments around the ship. Adobe Photoshop and extremely expensive printers come in real handy.

Artist's Touch

A comic strip is a nice addition to any newspaper. If you can bring our mostly-gray world to life with colorful cartoon, you will be loved.  MCSN Haiar is new to the ship, and mostly works the front desk. In his spare time he draws for the weekly newspaper. It's safe to say he's found a niche market, and he's very happy right now.

Paper Route

The end game in the newspaper business is distribution. We print large quantities of the Nimitz News and then deliver to the commanding officer, executive officer, command master chief, mess decks and the ward rooms. This all happens late at night on Thursday for a Friday release. It's cool, I always dreamed of having a paper route.

Just need a bicycle...

Crazy collateral

MC2 Cotter takes photos and writes stories for a living.  While Nimitz is docked, he moonlights as a bus driver on Naval Station Everett.  The base snatched him up a few weeks ago and sent him to driver school.  Now he ferries Sailors to and from work several hours a day.

I bet he didn't see this collateral duty coming.
