Out of her element

U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Ashley Berumen/RELEASED

As the Nimitz's makeover gets into full swing, photos taken by our MCs have been released for public viewing.  This what I see every morning when I go to work.

Quite the view isn't it?

Down here, contract workers do their thing under the massive hull.  This is going to be a great before and after photo.

Into the Yard

Video team Alpha prepares to cover day one, pulling into Bremerton.  U.S. Navy photo by MC3 Glenn Slaughter.

As we move into the heart of our drydock experience, the documentary is in full swing.  For the next year, we will be following the lives of Sailors as they live in a completely new environment.  Our ship is sitting on blocks right now, like a car in an automotive shop.

Look for Episode 1 on the Nimitz Facebook page soon!

On a side note, it's become very tricky for me to get fresh "Slaughter-taken" photos for the blog.  For security reasons, I'm not allowed to take my camera, cell phone, or laptop into the shipyard.  Bear with me, I'll keep posting no matter what!

Lil kids

It's times like these that remind me I'm surrounded by children. Some friendly shipmate drew this on my Jeep. The scribbled out part was a visual lesson in male anatomy.

It's incentive to keep my Jeep clean, I guess.

Movie Magic

MC2 Wolfe is currently working on the opening title for our year-long documentary series. The show, whose title is see-sawing between Dry Dock and The Yard(s), will cover the lives of Sailors as the Nimitz undergoes its dry dock period.

It will be released in roughly 30 minute episodes every month.  For the first episode I've worked as a videographer, voice-over artist, and am now getting my feet wet as a music composer.

I'll post more details and photos soon!  Vote on the documentary title at the top of this page.  All you Facebook junkies, it's http://www.usnavymc.blogspot.com.
