Studying for E-5

Back to school.
I wanted a photo of me behind a stack of books.  I had to grab this from freefoto.com because I don't own books anymore.  Sure I have a couple of favorites, like Ram Dass's Journey of Awakening, but everything else is on my Nook...  I love my Nook.  By the way, I highly suggest Journey of Awakening.  It will show you how to seriously reduce stress using meditative techniques.

No, I don't get paid for referrals.  I just care that much about my readers.

Anyway, I'm studying for the E-5 (2nd class petty officer) advancement exam in September.  As with my E-4 advancement exam post, I'm reading some interesting stuff from my study material.

Here's a quote from the section on news gathering:

As an MC in search of information, you must learn who to get information from and how to record facts.  You must learn techniques for handling different kinds of people, how to draw some out, how to keep others on the topic, and how to evaluate the motives or honesty of others.  In short, you must learn how to get along with people and how to treat them with tact and understanding while still accomplishing your purpose.

To the MC hopefuls reading this, the importance of your ability to effectively communicate cannot be overstated!
